Gordie Howe International Bridge opened to traffic

SIDERA supporting the management of traffic for the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America, as the new international bridge opens to traffic at the Windsor-Detroit border.

In 2019 SICE was awarded with the contract to provide technical services and expertise for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.

The bridge opened to traffic on July 27, 2026, and now spans the Detroit River between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. The six-lane, cable-stayed bridge features a main span of 853 metres, the longest of its kind in North America, and extends approximately 2.5 kilometers. The crossing also includes modern ports of entry on both sides of the border as well as a toll plaza on the Canadian side. SICE’s Traffic Management Solution, SIDERA, supports management of traffic along the busiest international land border crossing in North America.

The opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge marks not only an important moment for Canada and United States of America but also for SICE as it strengthens its position as a market leader in the ITS industry in North America.
