Buses

The ultimate goal of an urban or intercity bus transport operator is to optimise fleet management in order to maximise its transport capacity and the number of passengers per kilometre travelled. At SICE, we understand the importance of providing comprehensive solutions that improve the passenger experience and encourage the use of public transport.

Through advanced technology and efficient communication, our systems enable better coordination and operation of the fleet, resulting in increased transport capacity and a more satisfying passenger experience. We help to create attractive public transport that improves mobility and quality of life for millions of people around the world. At SICE, we are committed to boosting bus transport and improving the lives of citizens through our innovative solutions.

SICE works for public and private bus fleet operators, providing solutions that facilitate the operation and integration of the different subsystems that serve operators and passengers.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT SYSTEM (OSS)

The IHM Bus Operational Support System is a technological solution aimed at improving service efficiency and quality for a fleet of intercity buses. These systems use advanced information and communication technologies to provide comprehensive, real-time management of bus operations and the fleet as a whole.

SICE’s fleet management system incorporates operational support tools and a real-time traffic control system whose functionalities combine to make up a complete and advanced Operational Support System capable of optimising the management and operation of a fleet of intercity buses, improving the quality of service offered to users and the efficiency of the transport company itself.

The system displays in real time the location of all buses in the fleet on an interactive map.

The platform provides a synoptic view showing key fleet and operational information: number of buses in service, number of passengers on board, departure and arrival times, important events, etc.

The OSS enables two-way communication between the control centre and the bus drivers, allowing important messages to be sent, such as route changes, traffic alerts or any other information relevant to the operation.

In case of unexpected events or diversions, the system adjusts and reschedules bus routes in real time to minimise delays and maintain service efficiency.

The OSS records detailed information on the last services performed by each bus, such as mileage, fuel consumption or maintenance performed, among other relevant data for fleet management.

The system provides detailed information on each bus in the fleet, including its current status, number plate number, date of purchase, maintenance history and other important management details.

The system generates regular reports on fleet operation, driver performance, timetable fulfilment, passenger demand and other relevant data for decision-making and service improvement.

The platform is accessible online, allowing operators to manage and monitor the fleet from any location with an internet connection.

If the fleet has pre-existing operational support systems, the SICE OSS can integrate with them to improve the functionality and efficiency of operational management.

The system has a module that can import relevant data from other sources, such as ticketing systems, maintenance systems or other external databases, to consolidate information and improve decision-making.

On-board sales and validation

SICE’s on-board sales and validation solution is a comprehensive tool to facilitate the passenger payment and validation process across the bus fleet, while providing centralised and real-time control to improve the efficiency and operational management of public transport. This includes an integrated sales and validation system, consisting of a sales desk and validators that communicate with the control centre via an on-board router. This solution provides an efficient payment and validation process for passengers, as well as allowing centralised monitoring and control of the operation by the control centre.

The sales desk is a terminal located inside the bus, operated by the driver or the staff in charge. It allows ticketing transactions for passengers boarding the bus and can display additional information obtained from the OSS.

Validators are devices installed at the bus access doors. Passengers must swipe their transport card or ticket at the validator for the system to authorise travel and register that they have boarded the bus.

Both the sales desk and the validators are equipped with wireless communication technology allowing them to connect to the control centre via an on-board router.

When a passenger boards the bus, they can approach the sales desk to buy a ticket or validate their ticket/card. These may be contactless cards, QR codes, EMV cards or identifiers from an ABT system. Once validated, the passenger can pass through the validators, which will register their entry in the system.

All information generated in the sales and validation process, such as the number of passengers boarding, ticket sales revenue and validated transport card data, is recorded in the system and sent automatically to the control centre via the on-board router.

The control centre has real-time access to the data collected on each bus in the fleet. This makes it possible to monitor the operation of all vehicles, verify timetable fulfilment, manage collection and perform analysis and reporting to improve efficiency and quality of service.

Two-way communication between the control centre and the buses allows updates on fares, timetables, or any other information relevant to the service to be sent.

Passenger information systems

Overall, SICE’s Passenger Information System improves the user experience by providing relevant and up-to-date information on public transport, optimising connections between services and enabling users to make informed decisions and refine their journeys. This system relies on information and communication technologies to provide passengers with relevant and up-to-date information during their journey. In addition, the integration of dynamic advertising has a long track record, and can generate additional revenue for the operation and maintenance of the system.

The system is integrated with real-time traffic monitoring and tracking of the location of the buses in the fleet. This provides up-to-date information on traffic conditions, route conditions and estimated travel times.

The information collected in real time is dynamically distributed via a variety of platforms, including on-board bus displays, information panels at bus stops, smart stop totems, bus shelters, mobile apps, websites and other forms of communication.

Passengers have access to accurate estimates of waiting times at bus stops and estimated bus arrival times. This allows them to plan their journeys more efficiently and reduce unnecessary waiting times.

The system also provides information on connections between different public transport services. This allows passengers to plan optimal routes and transfer seamlessly between different modes of transport.

Information can be tailored to passengers’ needs and be provided in different formats, such as text, graphics or voice. It can also be provided in several languages to ensure accessibility to a wide audience.

In addition to public transport information, the system can also display dynamic advertising on screens and information panels. This can generate additional revenue and be a source of funding for the passenger information system

Security systems

The SICE solution enables the integrated management, monitoring and control of security installations at bus stops, bus shelters and buses. It includes CCTV surveillance systems, smart video analysis, access and intruder control, alarms and prevention of risk situations. We provide incident response tools and assistance to operators, ensuring safe and efficient operation. SICE Seguridad, the SICE Tecnología y Sistemas Group company specialising in security systems, offers comprehensive and customised solutions that ensure appropriate urban transport performance and provide peace of mind to users and operators at all times.
