Granada launches EMV payment system on the bus line to the airport

SICE, along with the Metropolitan Transport consortium of the Granada area and ALSA, has implemented the Europe Mastercard VISA (EMV) payment on the bus line linking the city of Granada with the airport.

The collaboration between ALSA and SICE has made it possible to implement this innovative system for the city of Granada in the transport sector, a system that responds to the needs of citizens. As stated by Antonio Granados, Delegate for Public Works, “the adaptation to the needs of the people who use it, as well as the effort to improve their experience by means of a very simple payment method that reinforces health safety and sustainable and inclusive mobility”.

Present in other cities in Spain, EMV payment, or more commonly known as contactless, is a tool that encourages the use of public transport. The new method allows payment to be made by bank card or any smart device linked to a payment method.

EMV payment as a new tool for accessing public transport offers a series of advantages for the city of Granada in terms of reduced environmental impact, the facilities provided to tourists, and an improvement in the quality of the city’s public transport service.

This service, recently activated on line 245, was presented in July by the Delegate for Public Works Antonio Granados, together with the project managers of the companies involved in the project: SICE, ALSA and the Granada Transport Consortium.
