SICE ANZ has been awarded a contract by Melbourne Water to implement DamData, a Dam Surveillance Information System (DSIS). This project includes the implementation of a mobile application for site inspections and a two-year contract for support and maintenance. The system encompasses 28 dam sites providing a comprehensive and centralised platform for effective monitoring and management of dam safety. This contract marks SICE’s first project in the Australian water sector, expanding its footprint in the region and bringing over 50 years of global expertise in water management to Australia.
SICE, through its dam engineering firm OFITECO, will provide a DSIS designed to meet Melbourne Water’s regulatory and operational needs. With experience from over 400 dams and maintenance of 200 sites worldwide, their expertise ensures top-tier engineering and innovative dam management for the project.
The system will integrate seamlessly with Melbourne Water’s existing operational platforms, including systems for real-time data acquisition and control (SCADA), asset and maintenance management, and hydrological data analysis, optimising data flow and improving operational efficiency. Key project components include the implementation of a mobile application for field data collection, the development of customised reports for analysis and compliance, and enhancements to create a user-friendly monitoring environment. DamData will ensure secure, real-time access to critical dam safety data, improving decision-making and operational resilience.
Melbourne Water’s current DSIS has reached the end of its lifecycle, and the implementation of DamData will address this gap by providing a modern, robust solution that aligns with the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) guidelines. The system requires significant data migration, which will improve data integration and user experience, and enhance Melbourne Water’s ability to monitor, analyse, and manage its 28 dams more effectively.
With improved surveillance capabilities, early detection of potential issues, and real-time data integration, the new DSIS will support proactive decision-making and ensure the continued safety and reliability of Melbourne Water’s resources. This project contributes to a sustainable water future, securing access to clean drinking water and protecting vital infrastructure for generations to come.
Securing this contract represents a major achievement for SICE, as it marks the company’s first venture into the Australian water sector. This milestone underscores SICE’s ability to deliver world-class dam safety solutions and demonstrates the company’s technical excellence in asset management. The project also establishes a strategic relationship with a key player in the industry, reinforcing SICE’s credibility and strengthening its position in the region.
