The project in Greater Gaborone, Botswana, has represented a significant effort in improving urban infrastructure, standing out for its technological implementations and innovations. Executed by SICE for the Ministry of Transport of Botswana, the project included the design, supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of the new traffic signaling system of Greater Gaborone, as well as the provision of a Centralized Traffic Control Center (CTC) in a turnkey modality, including four years of operation and maintenance.
Equipment Installed on the Streets
In order to achieve the project’s objectives, significant construction and engineering work was carried out, including the replacement of all existing traffic signaling components on the streets. The equipment installed at the intersections includes more than 140 traffic controllers, over 3,600 traffic signals, and devices for detecting incidents and red light violations.
These devices are crucial for improving traffic flow and reducing travel times, contributing to the well-being of citizens and the sustainable development of the city. The installation of CCTV cameras and incident detection systems allows for constant surveillance and a quick response to any situation that may arise on the roads, thereby improving road safety.

Traffic Control Center
The new Traffic Control Center (TCC) is a state-of-the-art facility covering more than 1,000 square meters. This center includes robust systems such as fire protection, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, security, data, and voice installations, along with a comprehensive building management system.
The TCC is equipped with a high-definition videowall that allows operators to monitor and adjust traffic flow in real-time, respond to incidents, and manage emergencies with precision. The integration of traffic signals, video transmissions, and compliance data through SIDERA Traffic software provides operators with an unprecedented view of the city’s traffic landscape.
This center is entirely innovative in Botswana, as it allows for data-driven decision-making that adapts to real-time conditions, optimizing traffic flow throughout the city. Additionally, the backup and simulation software allows for testing different traffic scenarios, ensuring resilience in emergency situations.

Innovation and Commitment
The project in Greater Gaborone has achieved a significant reduction in congestion at major intersections, improving mobility in corridors and their intersections, and modernizing the traffic signaling network.
The implementation of the Centralized Traffic Control Center (CTC) has been crucial for efficient and safe traffic management in the city.
These innovations reflect a commitment to excellence in urban infrastructure management and the ability to lead large-scale projects internationally. The SIDERA Traffic platform has been fundamental in the implementation of these improvements, ensuring efficient and safe traffic management in Greater Gaborone.
