Calle 30
2021 - 2024

12 years after the successful completion of the project for the total integration of Madrid’s Calle 30 tunnels, a global landmark in urban tunnels due to their great complexity, SICE was awarded the project to update and migrate the centralised management platform. The project consists of the renovation of the control equipment in the electrical rooms as well as the complete renovation of both the HW and SW of the Control Centre, making it the safest tunnel in Europe with the most advanced control system (SIDERA).

Madrid Calle 30 is a world reference project in the ITS and tunnels sector due to its great complexity. 14 years after successfully completing the full integration of the Calle 30 tunnels, SICE undertook the complete technological renovation of the system, for a more efficient management of traffic and the infrastructure itself. A comprehensive renovation, covering both the hardware and software of the Control Centre, as well as the control equipment distributed throughout the tunnel in the technical rooms and electrical cabinets.

With this project, Calle 30 will become the safest tunnel in Europe. 48 kilometres of urban road infrastructure, one of the largest and most complex in the world, through which more than 500,000 vehicles circulate every day. It houses more than 16,000 pieces of equipment and sensors connected to a “digital brain” that permanently monitors the state of the road. An intelligent centralised management system, SIDERA, monitors and controls all the tunnel’s systems and helps to resolve any type of incident.

In the words of the Madrid City Council’s Delegate for Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Calle 30 “is a vital infrastructure for the configuration of mobility in the city of Madrid. That is why this digital transformation means improving road safety and sustainability”.

Ensuring safety and improving the energy efficiency of Calle 30 means rigorous monitoring of the infrastructure 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Greater automation of the incident resolution system and more efficient traffic management thanks to artificial intelligence, key points of this digital renovation, will make it possible to achieve “greater speed and agility when an emergency occurs and this is vital to be able to resolve it without any damage to be regretted”.
