Communications Senior Engineer - Sydney

SICE’s value added to any tunnel project consists of end to end engineering services: design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and O&M support. SICE’s main goal is to find the best fit-for-purpose solution to our clients, integrating a range of in-house and third party technologies and systems.


The Role

Currently, we are seeking an experienced Communications Network Engineer to join our project team in Sydney. Reporting to the Project and Hardware Managers, the role involves taking responsibility for managing, planning, final design, Configuration, system integration, testing and commissioning activities of the OMCS Network architecture for the motorway and tunnel project for Wextconnex M4E and M5N. This will include:

  • Interfacing with cross disciplines and external information and documents;
  • Final Development of the Communications network architecture design package, including (not limited to):
    • Redundant 10Gb Core network layer 3 architecture divided in the Main Control Centre and Disaster recovery Centre;
    • 10Gb Distribution network layer 3 architecture to distribute the data from the tunnel to the Control Centres;
    • Dual fibre optic Industrial network layer 2 architecture to connect to the field equipment;
    • Firewall clustering for accessing to the WAN network;
    • NMS (Network Management System) to monitor and manage ;
    • Layer 2 VLANs structure to segregate all different services within the network;
    • High Availability protocols including industrial will be required such as RSP, MRP, OSPF, VRRP etc.
  • Liaising with client and third party vendors on aspects of the design and construction;
  • Network and Security System implementation and configuration including the set out of the whole network in a warehouse including:
    • Layer 2 Industrial Switches: +400 units
    • Layer 3 Distribution and Core network
    • Security Firewalls
  •  All Testing stages and final commissioning.



  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong communication and design skills, both written and verbal;
    • Strong experience with complex Campus Area Network architecture;
    • Strong experience with Industrial switching architectures and vendors;
    • Strong experience with networking protocols such as: RSTP, REP, DLR, MRST, VRRP, OSPF, BGP, LACP etc.
    • Strong experience with Multicast large implementations and Layer2/Layer3 protocols such as: PIM, IGMP, etc.
    • Cisco CCNA or CCNP or proven experience with Cisco devices;
    • Experience with Network Monitoring application based on SNMP;
    • Experience with network switches configuration, testing and commissioning;
    • Experience with Firewalls: Fortinet, Cisco, etc.
    • Office Tools: Word, Excel, Visio, etc.
  • Optional Technical Skills:
    • Experience in Fibre Optic designs;
  • Very well organised and methodical ability
  • Problem solving ability;
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as part of a team;
  • Ability to work autonomously;
  • Ability to manage a small team of engineers;
  • Strong skills in documentation and quality processes;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Self-motivated.



  • B.S. in Computer Systems, electronic and communication engineering, Information Technology engineering or similar;
  • At least 5 years of experience in planning, development, design, integration and delivery of technology within ICT or Industrial Communication projects;
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP or proven experience with Cisco devices;
  • Languages: You will be working in a multicultural team, with mixed Australian and Spanish components. Spanish is a plus.
