SICE’s innovative, Covid-safe remote testing solution for the WestConnex M8 Tunnel project has won a Smart Transport Infrastructure award from ITS Australia. The award-winning innovation includes a set of tools and practices that allowed engineers and the customer to work from home while testing, witnessing, and commissioning the new tunnel without compromising the project schedule without compromising tunnel safety.
SICE’s solution emerged in response to the challenges imposed by the Covid pandemic. All staff on the project were able to safely work from home, maintain productivity, and deliver uncompromised tunnel safety. Video conferencing technology combined with remote access to control systems and CCTV cameras enabled quick test set-up and execution. The project consortium members, the customer and the independent verifier were able to witness tests in a transparent, secure and reliable way without requiring to be physically present in the control room.
Australia’s Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) industry came together on the 26th of November 2020 across the country to celebrate the eleventh year of the ITS Australia National Awards. The Awards, this year broadcast online, recognise the outstanding projects and people that have advanced Australian transport technology throughout the year. The Smart Transport Infrastructure award is a new category which recognises organisations delivering excellence in transport infrastructure and network management by its technology innovation.
SICE is honoured to receive this award from ITS Australia as recognition of SICE’s team effort in managing to overcome the challenges and tough situations presented by this pandemic, sparking the creation of new ways of carrying out projects. This has raised the bar and offered new opportunities for future projects well beyond COVID-19. We are firm believers that this new remote testing solution will permanently change the way ITS projects conduct testing and commissioning activities in the future.
