Túnel de Waterview en Nueva Zelanda

The Well-Connected Consortium has been awarded with the construction of the Waterview Tunnel in Auckland (New Zealand). It is formed by companies from New Zealand (Fletcher Construction, Beca Infraestructure and Tonkin & Taylor) and from overseas (McConnell Dowell Constructors, Obayashi Corporation and PB) as well as some partners (SICE, Wilson Tunnelling, Downer EDI Works, Boffa Miskell and Warren and Mahoney).

The project is expected to be finalised by 2017, completing a key linkage in Auckland’s west ring road, through the connection of the SH20 at Mt Roskill and the SH16. This will give an alternative route to the SH1 and the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

The project consists of the construction of a 5km highway comprising 3 lanes per direction in the urban area of Auckland, including a fully equipped 2.5km double bore tunnel.
SICE has a 50% stake in the sub-alliance responsible for the following M&E works in the tunnel:

  • HV and LV Power System
  • Ventilation
  • Lighting
  • Fire Detection
  • Fire Extinguishing
  • Traffic Control
  • CCTV
  • Automatic Incident Detection
  • Telephony
  • Radio communications
  • METS
  • Public Address
  • Control Center

The contract also includes the operation and maintenance of the tunnel for 10 years, and SICE will take a leading role on the alliance responsible for this O&M.
