The Project consists of implementing a shadow-toll system for the Santiago–Brión (AG-56) dual-carriageway system. The road is 15.9 km long, 12.6 km of which corresponds to the main trunk of the four-lane dual-carriageway (2+2).
Since this dual carriageway is operated under a shadow-toll arrangement, drivers are charged
no direct costs for using it.
The shadow-toll system is supplemented with auxiliary systems for road users, including
variable-message panels, CCTV surveillance and SOS telephone posts.
This project is the culmination of the efforts made by SICE in the evolutionary development
of its roadside traffic-data-collection equipment and software for the centralised management of
the system — both products have been designed, manufactured and developed completely by SICE:
- Field equipment for counting and classifying vehicles using roadside turns and piezoelectric sensors
- Centralised supervision, control and auditing system for field information.
- The works also include 3 tunnels with their respective subsystems (SOS posts, ventilation, etc).
Field equipment:
- 8 data-collection stations
- 15 Domo TV cameras
- 7 fixed colour cameras for video verification
- 9 pairs of GSM SOS posts
- 6 variable-message panels
- 2 weather stations (with ice sensor)
- 16 Ethernet Gigabit field switches
- 17,468 m of monomode 12-optic-fibre cable.
Control-centre equipment:
- Database server
- 3 workstations for managing the toll-shadow system and ITS
- 1 SOS operations post
- 1 communications switch
- 1 SAI
- 1 laser printer
- 1 firewall
