The deputy mayor and councillor responsible for resources, security and mobility, Juan Manuel García Bermúdez, was present for the beginning of the work to renew the entire traffic-light lighting system. The project demonstrates the mayor and council’s commitment to modernising the town, to new technologies, to reducing pollution and to increasing energy savings.

The Project consists of fitting 3,571 new lamps to all the traffic lights in Jerez, with a budget of 282,302 euros for the necessary infrastructure works and labour. The councillor explained that “with the energy savings that this technology will allow us to make, we estimate that the investment will have paid for itself within a year and a half.”

Energy savings are the main reason to prefer LED lights rather than conventional light bulbs. But, as the councillor pointed out, they not only allow energy savings of up to 80% to be obtained, but also last longer and are more resistant to impact. He added said the this technology improves road safety, because it also improves reliability, durability and visibility.
