Centralising wireless traffic lights in Seville
SICE concludes Spain's most ambitious urban traffic project with wireless centralisation, making Seville the first major city to centralise all its traffic-light-controlled crossings
September 18, 2008 // Seville

The project, which set out to renew the technology, increase road safety and optimise traffic management, consisted of installing 55 new traffic regulators.

The wireless technology used, given the wide geographical area in which the traffic-light-controlled crossings are located and the existing associated Communications infrastructure, was mobile telephony (GPRS) over a virtual private network (VPN). The Communications process has been optimised to reduce messaging costs, reaching an optimal balance between the functionality of centralisation and the communications costs involved.

Each crossing communicates directly with ADIMOT system Server, integrated with the city’s SIT3 traffic-information system, which was totally developed by SICE.
