Access-control system for Seville’s Royal Alcazar
SICE has installed an access-control system at the Royal Alcazar in Seville, featuring barcode-scanner technology.
January 11, 2007 // Seville, Spain
One of the must-see sights for anyone passing through Seville is a visit to the Royal Alcazar. Located in the heart of the city’s old quarter, this royal palace receives over a million visitors a year.

In 2001, SICE installed the access-control system for the Royal Alcazar, implementing magnetic technology. As an extension to this system, and in the light of the latest technological developments, in December 2006 the access-control system was upgraded to technology based on barcode scanners, installed at the entrance to each corridor, which is capable of interpreting, controlling and processing the information printed on admission tickets.

To meet the needs of the Royal Alcazar, a communications system will be implemented to connect the scanners at the access turnstiles and the POS computers to the local control post where the information will be centralised. The local control post will allow all the equipment making up the system to be managed, while serving as a link to the local network.

The local control post will communicated with the turnstile scanners via RS-232 and with the information displays via RS-485, with the POS units via Ethernet.

The system software manages the entire ticketing operation at the multiple points of sale, using a thermal printer and identifying them with a barcode. A key part of the system centralises all the information on operations and settings.
