The implementation of the shadow-toll and ITS systems on these three dual-carriageway sections in Spain positions SICE as a leader in the sector under a concession mode that allows large infrastructure projects to be financed at zero cost for users.
The Calatayud–Alfajarín section, which is part of the North East Corridor, under the Ministry
of Development’s First-Generation Dual-Carriageway Reconditioning Plan, is 107.2 kilometres long,
located between kilometre points 232.8 and 340 on the A-2, and is characterised by heavy car and
heavy-goods traffic, particularly along the final stretch near Zaragoza.
The Valladolid–Cuellar section is 43 kilometres long and part of the “Los Pinares
Dual-Carriageway, which links the Castilian provincial capitals of Valladolid and Segovia, freeing
up traffic on the A-6 and the A-62 along the section between Valladolid and Tordesillas.
The Reus–Alcocer section is 10.2 kilometres long, resulting from the conversion into a
dual-carriageway of the C-14 road on the Tarragona–Andorra route, part of the Catalan road network,
passing through the districts of El Tarragonès, El Baix Camp and El Alt Camp. The project is part
of the major road links programme being developed by the Catalan Regional Government’s Department
of Territorial Policy and Public Works.
These projects join a long list of SICE shadow-toll deployments not only in Spain but also in
Portugal and the UK.
