Since 1921
The project applies solution-search technology to a long-standing problem for disabled people: the difficulties faced when parking spaces reserved for disabled people are occupied by vehicles without the necessary permit.
The system to control disabled-parking spaces, for which FAMMA and SICE signed an agreement
in July in partnership with the Madrid regional Government, consists of a microchip attached to the
parking card that can emit signals to a receiver fitted to one of the reserved-parking signs.
Whether in identification of the card checks out or not, notification is sent to an operations
centre so that the police authorities can effectively control the use made of these reserved spaces
and therefore take the appropriate steps in real time, as necessary.
The first phase of the project has now been completed and was presented with considerable
success at the First Meeting of Cities for Road Safety held on 22 and 23 October in Gijón and at
the International Road Safety and Equipment Fair (TRAFIC) held between 27 and 30 October in
Madrid.
The system, which is now fully functional, was demonstrated to figures from various public
bodies and representatives of the end users, all of whom were very satisfied with its success.
