Sagunto installs 70% of its castle lighting with seven kilometres of cable and 360 lights
The lighting works at Sagunto castle have passed the half-way mark. 70% of the new night-lighting network has now been installed, with seven kilometres of cable and 360 lights around the walled perimeter. The lights will be switched on in March, until when the lighting will remain at 25%. The contractor for these works is SICE.

Seven kilometres of cable and 360 floodlights have been installed so far as part of the night-lighting project at Sagunto castle — 70% of the total .

Providing deadlines are met as expected, the most modern, highly developed exterior lighting system in Spain will be switched on in mid-March.

Until then, only 25% of the archaeological site will be lit in order for the inaugural event to be ‘‘even more spectacular, according to the spokesman of the local Socialist Party, Councillor José Luis Chover.
525 light points will cover the site’s perimeter, along three separate lines to bring out the volume of the castle.

The installation works began on the approach up to the castle, where twenty camouflaged floodlights and lamps were sited. These are now switched on every evening.

The installers then completed the section at the restored old quarry, one of the most difficult and complex parts of the site because of its steep terrain.

By sectors

A major feature of the project, in which the firm Unión Fenosa has invested 1 million euros, is that the skeleton of light will not be switched on or off from a single switch.

The complexity of the works means that parts or sectors of the castle can be highlighted at different times as required. These sectored light circuits therefore make selective lighting possible with many visual options, using the very latest technology and electronic systems. Part of the wiring has been hidden under layers of soil and vegetation to avoid any visual impact.
