The air-quality information citizen provides the public with access to real-time data on pollutant concentrations measured at 24 sites in the city.
Users of the new website developed under a contract with SICE can consult more detailed
information from each measuring station, the evolution of the data over varying time periods,
configurable graphics, as well as information on the annual balance and air-quality index. A
viewing module has been included with geo-positioning of the stations via Google Maps and live
information from each station, displayed instantly.
One of the new information services enables uses to receive alerts on their mobile phone
whenever the recommended maximum levels are exceeded. Simply by registering online, users can
receive information on alert threshold for any part of the city they are interested in.
Another new tool is an iPhone app, which allows users to choose a measuring station and
display the air-quality data over the last hour.
This service also features a guide containing simple, useful tips about helping to conserve
the environment. It also explains the sources and effects of some of the most common pollutants
found in our cities.
A multilingual tool has been implemented for these new developments, allowing users to
operate them in Spanish or English.
This modern system was launched by the mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, and the
Environment Councillor, Ana Botella, on 15 October at the Cibeles Palace.
