On 17 January 2009 the president of the Segura Water Authority (CHS), José Salvador Fuentes Zorita, signed several contracts for the renovation and improvement of the SAIH-Segura water-alert network, which has been seriously tested by the recent series of heavy storms.
The works being undertaken by the CHS have been afforded emergency status by the Spanish
government, through the Water Department of the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine
Ambits (MARM), given the possibility of further storms, to further enhance the already accredited
response capacity of the systems currently in place.
The recent rainfall has demonstrated the usefulness and effectiveness of the water authority’s
alert system (SAIH-Segura), as well as the need to update it and adapt it in the light of the
latest technological developments. The CHS will invest 1.5 million euros in renovating half the
devices in the network, also adapting them to a new scenario marked by the increase in outlets at
repeater stations and the launch of TDT.
